In time for Donatelife Thank You Day on Sunday 20th November, Victor Dominello, NSW Customer Service Minister flanked by Infrastructure Minister Rob Stokes delivered a ground breaking initiative to drive the conversation and awareness of Organ and Tissue Donation in NSW.
The ServiceNSW App is used by over 5.5 million people and the new tile on the home page will link users directly to the DonateLife Registration page so they can register their intent to be an organ donor.
The introduction of the tile will be supported by a message to all app users explaining the importance of talking to their family and loved ones about what they would want to say if ever asked.
It is a massive step forward in raising awareness for Organ and Tissue Donation and the importance of the Next of Kin Consent conversation amongst families whether they have Registered to be a donor or not.
This initiative comes from the great bipartisan work by many members of Parliament.
David Mehan MP and Adam Crouch MP who cochair the NSW Parliamentary Friends of Organ and Tissue Donation and Transplant Awareness. Tim James MP, Justin Clancy MP, retiring health Minister Brad Hazzard MP and Shadow Health Minister Ryan Park MP all played a part in this initiative and others in their field of Organ Donation and Transplant Awareness.
Work is being done to also review the "Increasing Organ Donation in NSW: Government Plan 2012" including the clinical processesand support, the reintroduction of Drivers License Registration and Posthumous recognition of Donor Status.
NSW Parliamentarians from all parties will use this Sunday's "Thank You Day" to promote the new feature on the ServiceNSw App and the importance of the conversation that everyone should have with their loved ones about organ donation and what they would want their family to do if they were ever asked to consent to the gift of life.
